So, another Icon of swiss watch making history Omega Speedmaster 2998-5 from the early 60`s. Was hoping to give you exact dates on this beauty and the Excerpt from the Archives was ordered and paid for. And then the international mayhem hit the Omega Factory as well.. No Excerpts until they open again and the archives can be accessed.
Here is what I know. Case : very good case with the stepped lines in the case middle still there and not polished away over the years. Good original back with the seamonster slightly faded from normal wear.
No excessive tool marks from watch butchers. Screws in fine and no rust anywhere in this Speedmaster. Just replaced original Omega glass with the omega logo in the middle and the original wide chrome pressure ring, as is the signature for this model. On this watch was a generic replacement, that went into the bin. Original DoN bezel in excellent condition.Has 2 dents in the metal ring. But the insert has no paint loss and looks fantastic. The crown is a mystery to me. But that Omega logo is something, I have not seen before. It could be from the very first 2915 model.
If anybody knows, what this crown is, pls. Could not find anything in my searches. That concludes the case and outer parts. There is some paint bubbling in very tiny bubbles (not damaged or burst bubbles; just tiny bubbles) , which I tried to capture in the outside in the Sun picture. You will not notice that normally.
The lume has darkened into a brownish colour; I think, there is still Radium present. The hands are original hands; not flat like the service hands, but slightly curved in themselves, as it should be.
No plating loss here, just light scratches. The lume on the hands is different in the shade of brown, as it should be with different surfaces.
The running second hand at 9 is a mix match from a later reference. The small counter hands have some paint loss in tiny sections. All in all a very nice dial/hands combo.Movement: we had it checked with our omega watchmaker and all functions are working well. A service for correct functions is not necessary in the moment. I`d replace the mainspring later. If you have it serviced for everyday wear, have the 12 hour wheel brake adjusted as well. Sometimes it does not stop the wheel and the hand is running constantly.
Very easy to do for a watchmaker. I did not want to remove the dial and all hands for doing that adjustment. This movement had a good life; the screw heads look quite good and not abused! See the pics from the Timegrapher. Keeps very good time; but is not serviced in the moment.
Because it does not need any attention in the moment. All parts fine, so no parts needed with that service. We are trading vintage watches for over 30 years. And WE send the invoice to you.
