There is also some writing on the inside on parchment that looks very old and interesting. Joannes Georgius Huber was one of the rarest makers of the Old Vienna School and known for using the woods of old viols in his instruments. This violin was previously restored by Basta, also a great maker, who made a new scroll for the violin (and can be compared to his other instruments), doubled the top edges and made a few repairs.
There are no soundpost crack repairs on the instrument. The woods are very old and extremely beautiful in this instrument, especially the highly figured maple back that likely came from a much older instrument. It would be interesting having a dendro made to determine the age of the woods. The violin is in very good playable condition and needs no further work.
