Hans Rudolf Meyer (1913-2012) Very Fine 1945 Oil, Study of Sweet Peas

  

The artist has used prominent palette work and impasto, cleverly achieving a sense of soft and delicate form, depicting a small glass vase of sweet peas on a table. This work was most likely painted in Germany or Western Europe during the traumatic close of the Second World War.

Meyer has crafted within the work a distinct calming quality, with light pastel tones and a gently contrasting background, expressing his adept proficiency in the medium and subject. Well-presented in an original distressed wooden frame with corner mouldings and gilt details, as shown. Signed and dated to the lower right, and also signed to the reverse of the board.

In very good condition for a picture of this age. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. The frame has a stable crack to the upper left, and general wear and surface dirt commensurate with its age. Small area of restoration to the upper left corner moulding.

Size: 46.8 x 42.3cm (18.4" x 16.7"). Framed Size: 60.6 x 56cm (23.9" x 22"). Includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
