This is the original (1sh) movie poster ISLE OF THE DEAD. It was issued when the movie was released by. In 1945 to promote the release of the movie. This is not a reprint nor a reproduction.

The movie stars Boris Karloff, Ellen Drew, Marc Cramer, Katherine Emery, Helene Thimig, Alan Napier , and Jason Robards, Sr. It was directed by Mark Robson and produced by Val Lewton. It is a partially restored, Rolled poster measuring 14" x 36", called an "Insert" poster. It was linen backed and with the linen it measures approximately 16" x 38".

The poster was previously Folded. The poster being Folded is not considered a flaw or a defect. Most original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded. This original movie poster is graded C8, Very Fine.

Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine or Excellent), C7 (Fine to Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc. This poster is ready for immediate framing and display.

Prior to restoration and linen backing the poster was graded a C6, Fine. The partial restoration corrected a tear in the upper left corner that went into the image. The existing flaws as described above generally occur along the poster's border, which with proper framing can be alleviated. That would include a trace over of the poster number of the number "8" in 45/148 (see second to last photo).

Overall the main image of the poster is quite flawless and is immediately ready to be framed and displayed. We believe that the original movie poster Insert of ISLE OF THE DEAD has investment value. Normally all Karloff movie and movie posters carry some investment value. And if you like Karloff, you should like this movie (which I watched recently in August 2017) as Karloff plays a military man but retains his "so watchable" screen presence and demeanor. I thought it was an excellent movie.
