Very Rare Sargent 7 Shaw's Patent (no. 2 Size) Smooth Plane 98% Japanning Fine
EARLY SARGENT SHAW'S PATENT No. Very rare Sargent Shaw's Patent 7 plane, one of the rarest of the Shaw's 1906 Patent planes. It has 98% Japanning with some missing from top of the right cheek. East India Mahogany knob and tote have zero repairs or owners marks and all their original finish. Its 6-7/8 inch nicely honed iron is marked SARGENT V-B-M - NEW HAVEN CT. But is not stamped 7. Number 7 is cast on the toe and incised on the frog and lever cap. Bottom and sides are smooth with no rust or pitting and mouth is perfect. The right side has some minor stain. Bill Ericson rates the Sargent 7 as four stars rare in his appraisal of No. 2 size planes in Murlands Guide. A very nice Sargent 7 for your collection..
