WEST SIDE STORY Original 1961 Movie Poster, 27 x 41, C8 Very Fine Condition

This is the original (1sh) 1961 movie poster WEST SIDE STORY. It was used to promote the film in theatres when it was released by.

In 1961 It is not a reprint nor a reproduction. The movie stars Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and Simon Oakland.

It was directed by Robert Wise. This restored movie poster is Rolled and linen backed. The poster measures 27" x 41". The poster was rolled once it was linen backed. With the linen backing, it still measures 27" x 41" as the linen has been trimmed to the poster's border.

This poster was originally Folded. Almost all original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded. This is not considered a flaw or defect. This Restored movie poster is graded C8, Very Fine.

Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Very Good to Very Fine), C6 (Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc. It is difficult to find any C10 (Mint) original movie posers pre 1985. Prior to restoration this poster was graded a C7.5 Very Fine Minus. Restoration: corrected a few mis-Folds, prior Fold lines were touched up to reduce their appearance, small tears along the border were repaired, and a tear/rip with missing paper near the Title was restored.

The missing paper of about 2.5" by 1/4" at the top border on the right along the outermost border is the main reason that this original movie poster is not graded higher as a C8.5 Very Fine to Near Mint. This flaw dos not affect the appearance of the poster's image at all, and can easily be alleviated with proper framing to cover it, but we feel that missing paper should generally not be part of a C8.5 grading. That said, this original will create a stunning display of a readily recognizable iconic movie.

The poster now displays beautifully. Some stray marks have occurred since restoration, as described above, which are unobtrusive (not noticeable at a short viewing distance) to the poster's appearance. The colors are deep and rich. This original 1961 movie poster WEST SIDE STORY has excellent investment value. The film is timeless, and per Wikipedia... The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won ten, including Best Picture, becoming the record holder for the most wins by a musical. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for the National Film Registry in 1997. This movie and its original 1961 movie poster will always have its fans and collectors, and will more than likely continue to generate fans and collectors, whom will continue to create high demand for the movie's memorabilia.
